Order MHI

-4/29/08 EDITED TO ADD:  The original version of MHI is now discontinued.  I’ve signed a deal with a major publisher, and MHI will be unavailable until their version hits store shelves in 2009.

-2/1/08 EDITED TO ADD:  The preorder is over.  You can still order books directly from me for $26 with shipping, but I am out, and will not have any copies here for about two weeks.  I am no longer sending out patches as the preorder is done.  Because of popular demand, I am making more patches.  They will be available for $4 each.  MHI is also available on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Monster-Hunter-International-Larry-Correia/dp/0741444569/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201928980&sr=8-1 and doing really well.

ORIGINAL POST

I’m now taking pre-orders for my novel, Monster Hunter International. Pre-ordered books will come with a MHI patch, (the one from the book cover), and I will autograph your copy.  If you request it, I’ll sign your patch also.  Hell, I’ll sign anything, I’m a nice guy.

The approximate ETA is around the end of the year, because I still need to approve the final proof copy.  I should have it around the later half of November.  After I approve the copy, then we will be a few weeks out from publication.

You can pay with a check, or credit card.  I won’t charge the cards or cash the checks until I need to pay for the books myself.  This will probably be within a week or two of you receiving your copies.

MHI is 420 pages long, 5.5 x 8.5, perfect-bound, with full color cover, and will be printed by Infinity Publishing.    Cost is $20 per copy.  Add $6 for shipping one book.  $10 for shipping 2-5 books.   If you’re ordering more than that, contact me and I’ll figure out shipping.   Edit:  (shipping to Canada or Mexico is $8, shipping everywhere else international is $12, for one book)

Send checks or money orders to:

To pay with a credit card, you can e-mail your information to me a monsterhunter45 at hotmail.com  (I hate that I have to type out the @ sign, but I despise getting spam at my personal addresses)  I can run anything except Discover.  Edit:  As was pointed out below, not a good idea to just send me your CC info via e-mail.  If you want to pay me with a card, e-mail me, and I can give you my phone number.

I also have a Paypal account, though I’m not a big fan of theirs.  But if you prefer to use Paypal, my account is slg2qcorreia at yahoo.com  (note that is a S L G 2 Q, for some reason people want to write Sig, go figure.)

Make sure you enclose your shipping address in the message.

Book dealers should contact Infinity directly, www.infinitypublishing.com as they offer a great dealer discount, and they also have a returns policy.  Library systems can obtain free copies by contacting Infinity and asking about their Library Program.

MHI will be available on Amazon and Barnes & Nobel.com sometime after the New Year.  So why preorder?  A.  It helps me, the struggling writer, in my nefarious goals toward global domination.  B.  You get an awesome patch.

(Booner models the MHI patch, ’cause if you don’t look good while you’re killing stuff, then you’re not really a Monster Hunter)

Thanks,

  1. Larry,

I’m so hooked on this book, it’s not even funny. I read the first chapter teaser, and I’m slavering for more.

Please, tell me how to pre-order.

    -K

  2. I’m in for one. Please, let me know how to order.

  3. looking forward to it. that sample chapter was awesome!

  4. You should check out Sealed Media so you can make your book available for electronic download. It works well and can allow some of us to have the book more quickly. Harvard Business Review uses it on all of their pdf files. You can allow the user to print a copy but not share the electronic version with someone else.

But it does have its downsides as well. The main thing is that you can put it up quickly for people to get.

  5. I’m placing my order immediately for three reasons: A) We need somebody who wants the responsibility of global domination, B) I love cool patches C) I think autographed books are the coolest thing ever, that can’t be fired.

  6. Congrats, check your email

  7. Uh. Credit card details, in e-mail, in plain text? Baaaaaaad idea. Massively bad idea. Credit card details should ALWAYS be sent encrypted. Just like web stores - hopefully nobody would give out credit card information on an unencrypted web form, either.

  8. Oh, and you didn’t mention how much international shipping costs would be. At least this Finnish guy found the sample chapter to be very, very good… ;)

  9. Tony, I edited that. Good point, I hadn’t thought of that.

I’ll check and find out about shipping to Finland, and get back to you.

  10. I saw the slg2q thing and KNEW you had to be a USU alum. Google confirms this to be true. I have fond memories of the SL id’s. Mine was slyt9. For those not familiar, in the ‘old days’ we were given cryptic e-mail address that began with ’sl’.

And just for being an Aggie, I’m pre-ordering tomorrow. Would be nice if you had a secure site for taking orders. Maybe look into Google Checkout.

  11. I’m in. Definately in. Especially after the Nightcrawler stories, and tell me how I can get more patches if available? Thanks and keep ‘em blazin Correia!

  12. Just curious, but I’m sure it might cost a bit more to ship to the UK.

How much will it be for international shipping?

  13. Gareth, I’ve already got to call the post office about Finland today. I’ll ask about the UK also.

Jared, yep. Go Aggies. And I’m working on a secure ordering option today. I’ve got my regular business that has a shopping cart, but I was trying to avoid intermingling MHI stuff into that. But looks like I’ll need to.

    I’ll update again this afternoon.

I was pleasantly shocked to see how many copies I sold yesterday. :)

  14. Can we send Money orders? I know they are old fashioned but I’m actually pretty paranoid about sending checks or credit info.

  15. Money orders are perfectly fine.

  16. Sent a check today for a copy! Can I get any extra patches?

  17. Greg, I’ll see what I can do. It depends on how many I’ve got left after the initial run. I’ll be doing more later, too.

  18. Would it be safe to assume that the monster’s won’t be hunted with H&K’s? :D

  19. Mike, believe it or not, there are a bunch of HK UMPs at one point. It’s a long story, but somebody got a good deal on 2 dozen of them. :)

  20. Gee, don’t you think it would do better if you offered a free .357 snub with each preorder? You could probably even get custom CT Lasergrips with the MHI logo.

OTOH, since I already have a Taurus 605 to cover the 5-shot, could you make mine one of the seven or eight shot models?

  21. Could you find out how much it would cost for postage to Melbourne, Australia?

I only want the book, does that make any difference to the cost?

Thanks for writing such cool sci-fi
    Rebecca

  22. OK, after reading the teaser chapter I just placed an order. Looks like a fun read.

  23. Larry, I’m gonna need two copies of the book. Quick question though: would it be possible to order more copies of the patch? Let me know if that’s possible and, if so, how much extra, and I’ll get a check out to ya!

    Oh… email me at baca.strings@gmail.com

  24. I’m working on figuring out international shipping still. I’ve got people who need them to Finland, Sweden, Australia, and the UK now. It looks like the US Post has a Flat Rate Priority Envelope that is only $12. I just need to figure out if I can ship a book in it.

Strings, extra patches will be $4.00 each.

  25. I checked. I can fit a book of this size into the flat rate international shipping envelope. So shipping for one book to Mexico or Canada is $8, and anywhere else for $12.

  26. Check in the mail shortly!

  27. HATS! Low pro ball caps or Army patrol caps (OD) would be awesome! E-mail sent!

  28. It comes with a patch…now i have to preorder. :)

  29. I’m in for one. I’ll send out a money order tomorrow! :)

  30. Larry , I thought I was special… now everybody gets a MHI patch………

Im going to auction mine on ebay,.

    book looks good.

  31. I don’t buy my fiction in paper anymore. Will you be releasing this as an ebook? It looks like a fun read.

  32. Bulgron, I’ll be releasing an e-book later on, but right now I’m concentrating on getting the hard copy shipping first.

  33. OK, cool. I can wait.

Either ereader or mobipocket works for me, just in case you’re wondering….

  34. Fantastic! Just did my preorder. Can’t wait to read this and love the patch as well!

  35. Looks like a laugh,
    I’ll pre-order one

  36. Ze Czech is in ze mail.

  37. Pretty good, the first chapter has me hooked.

Couple of things: I thought this would go the direction of ‘Princess of Wands’ by John Ringo, but I’m sensing that our hero may have a few ‘flaws’; perfect, he’s just like the rest of us… Plus, he has excellent taste in defensive ammo.

If you do go with the ebook, I recommend Baen Books. There is NO encryption or fancy computer schemes to prevent the sharing of their ebooks. This has the effect of making their books something I DO share with all my friends, and they end up fans of the author just like me. We end up buying pretty much all of that authors’ titles (OK, you can’t go wrong reading Drake, Weber, Ringo, & Doc Taylor).

I know it would take a very large leap of faith to go with the Baen ebook route, but I strongly urge you to at least take a look at it.

BTW, I’m dying for my copy.

  38. I’m looking forward to this even more now. I’m currently reading a book told from the viewpoint of the mother of a school shooter. It’s actually a pretty good book (though the author really gets off on her fancy prose sometimes), but you can tell it was written and proofread in England. How? Because she has referred to the same gun thus far as “a .30-caliber shotgun” and “a 30-millimeter deer rifle,” only once hitting on the correct combination of those two descriptions. Much as I love the idea of a 30mm deer rifle (that’s, let’s see, about 2.5 times as big as a .50 BMG? RUN DEER RUN), it makes twitch, and I’m excited to know I’ll soon be reading a book with the correct descriptions of not only guns but good ammunition as well.

  39. Sorry ’bout taking so long.

Hope you don’t mind, I’m sending a Paypal payment later.

  40. I can’t carry an e-book in my back pocket.

    Yet.

    Twitch, twitch, twitch…

Dude, mail me chapter two… I’m jonesin’ bad… I promise I’ll kill it after I read it. Also, if you need any large format printing for promotion stuff, I’ll probably be able to beat anyone else’s prices, and offer better quality. Seriously. Shop around, and then call me. Same for FBMG… I can take a high res image of that cover, and make it wall-size…

  41. I sent an email about ordering. I’m anxious to place my order and read this book.

  42. I tried to email you to send mr your phone # so I could preorder the book and patch with my credit card, but it is saying that hotmail doesn’t recognize the name even after substituting @ for at. Please contact me!

  43. Update, I’m still awaiting the proof copy from the publisher. I’ve contacted them to try and get a firmer ETA.

  44. It might be a good idea to put in a paypal button. Easy make ordering more likely.

  45. Larry,

Can you bring a few copies to SHOT?

    Thanks!

    Jordan

  46. I heard about your book on madogre.com and I ordered your book from Amazon. It took damn near 3 weeks to get here but it was well worth the wait. I got it yesterday evening and just finished it. Awesome job, especially for a first novel. Hey if werewolves, wights and wendigos fell out of the sky right now I would believe it. The only unbelieveable thing was Julie. Chicks like that are a fantasy. I could easily believe in monsters, but girls like that are pure imagination. Beauty, brains and combat skills? My wife has the first two but not the third.

    When’s the sequel due?

Finally, I would love to get my hands on an MHI patch to put on my plate carrier or a cap. Can I buy one or does it have to come with a book purchase?

  47. Thanks for a really great read! I read my boyfriends copy, now I want to give it to my brother-he will love it, too. Mostly thanks for writing something us girls can understand (the gun lingo). I read Weber and Ringo a lot and sometimes my eyes just glaze over with all the spacific and incredibly detailed weaponary descriptions! And I’m one of the few that like guns! In my dreams I’m no longer Lara Croft, I’m Julie. Just a short, blonde, pudgy, Polish version!
Can’t wait for the sequel-I’ll order it too.

    Barb

  48. Print more books!
I never read books but I was going to make an exception when I heard about MHI and read the first chapter.
Imagine my disappointment when I go to the book store and there were no copies to be bought.
Amazon no longer shows any copies in availability either.

  49. Man, I wish I knew this existed earlier and I would have pre-ordered!

  50. Print more! And let me know when you have them. Ok?

  51. Really enjoying MHI now..

Please let me know when patches are available. Be great to have a decal or two for vehicles - Sure would mess with peoples minds.

    Thanks
