Sad Puppies Update: Time is almost up to nominate

So everybody who registered to vote has probably received this note with your voting info:

There are just two weeks left in the nomination period for the 2014 Hugo Awards and the 1939 Retro Hugo Awards.  Nominations will be accepted through March 31, 2014 at 11:59 pm PDT.   Details for the process can be found on the Loncon 3 website at www.loncon3.org/nominations.php

Even if you have already submitted nominations, you may update your selections (either electronically or by mail) as long as the nomination period continues.  If you’re submitting your nominations electronically, we recommend you do so in advance of the deadline to avoid any problems in the final hours when the system will be very busy.

I’ve not put together my final slate yet (been writing too much!) so don’t wait around for me. You can also go back and tweak your nominations up until the deadline.

This thread had a bunch of good ideas: http://monsterhunternation.com/2014/02/20/sad-puppies-2-the-debatening/

The ones that I’m sure on right now:

Best Novel: Warbound (the Grimnoir Chronicles trilogy) by Larry Correia

Best Novella: The Butcher of Khardov by Dan Wells

Seriously, go read it if you haven’t, because it is awesome. And I bet a random stranger on the internet $5 I could get a piece of game tie in fiction nominated for a Hugo. 🙂

The Butcher of Khardov (The Warcaster Chronicles)

Best Editor long form: Toni Weisskopf

Best Fanzine: Elitist Book Reviews

Working on the others.

  1. Just been waiting for your traditional suggestion list. There are a lot of categories I have no ideas for.

  2. May I humbly suggest Martin Shoemaker’s Murder on the Aldrin Express as a ripping good novella. And Martin’s a decent guy, too.

  3. Done and Done!

Can anyone get VIDEO of the literati heads actually exploding? Anyone actually going to be at LonCon3?

  4. Submitted my nomination. Go Warbound! Looking forward to sweet legit e-books of the Grimnoir Chronicles and happy puppies,

  5. Ballot submitted. Got Kratman and Ringo on there for Extra Splodey Heads.

  6. Done! And I did the same thing Aimee did…LOL

  7. My Splodey Heads list includes Larry, Ringo, Torgersen, Freer, Hoyt, Kratman, and Williamson.

I also have Frank Chadwick, Marko Kloos, and Hugh Howey for the John W. Campbell Award.

I have no ideas for the Best Graphic Story category. I don’t even know what’s out there right now that’s worth looking at from 2013.

  8. You should come to D.C. for Awesomecon! In addition to being slightly out of your comfort zone, you could reach some people who may never get a chance to come to the conventions that are over in your neck of the woods. You may find it is something you would like to attend regularly

  9. Can I make a pitch for some *different* “Best Related Work?”

“Fracking and the American Comeback” by J.R. Dunn published by Baen Books (www.baen.com) (Baen Free Nonfiction 2013 – eBook)

“Training for War, Part One” by Tom Kratman published by Baen Books (www.baen.com) (Baen Free Nonfiction 2013 – eBook)

“On the Road to the Brainships: A Look at the Current Science of Interfacing the Brain” by Tedd Roberts published by Baen Books (www.baen.com) (Baen Free Nonfiction 2013 – eBook)

“A Terrible Thing to Lose: Zombie Science and Science Fiction in John Ringo’s Under a Graveyard Sky” by Tedd Roberts published by Baen Books (www.baen.com) (Baen Free Nonfiction 2013 – eBook)

“Inappropriate Cocktails” by Michael Z Williamson From Tour of Duty (Baen)

  10. So, is it worthwhile to read these Warcaster books if you are unfamiliar with the game. Because I love Dan Wells, but am a bit hesitant.

    • You do not need to be familiar with the game to enjoy them.

      • Though it would be amusing if Warmachine Vengeance was nominated for a Hugo next year.

It’s got fiction in it, right?

        😛
